Offering fun and exciting events and opportunities to support important social causes are not just nice to do but integral to building a collaborative and inclusive culture. Here are some of the things that make TCG a positively distinct place to work.
TCG offers $1,000 each month to hold social and charity sprees — fun activities that bring employees together. Any TCGer may choose and organize a spree. Past sprees included scuba diving lessons, cooking classes, and horseback riding. Charity Sprees have included volunteer work with Wreaths Across America at Arlington National Cemetery and Generosity Feeds.
TCG holds events every year for business, fun, and sometimes both. Every summer, we have our Annual All-hands meeting, where the executive staff gives their “State of the Company” address and hold an open forum for answering employee questions that span the serious (what’s our strategy for capturing new business?) to the absurd (how old is the pet snake that lives at headquarters?)
The annual early-summer picnic is our keystone family-friendly event. There’s food, fun, family, and somehow there’s always sun. Sometimes we have clowns, but only the non-scary clowns. Frightening children has never been an event.
The Yearly Focus is a cause that the company has voted to support for the year. This is one of the ways that we fulfill our mission of improving the world around us. In 2018, we supported STEM education for girls and minorities throughout the DC metro area by creating educational tools for a girls school in Washington DC and volunteering at local STEM competitions. In 2019, TCGers voted to beautify local, state, and national parks. We kicked off that effort by adopting Marvin Caplan Park in Washington, DC, volunteered to clean up area green spaces, and donated to local organizations that support our parks.
We know who we are—an intelligent, honest, and fair company dedicated to proving our value to clients and the community while valuing our employees’ families. We wear our hearts on our sleeves, which can make it difficult to get the stains out, but you’ll never doubt our sincerity, commitment, and ability to do what we say we will. (Also, we have a rather pedantic dedication to the oxford comma. Just thought you should know.)
You can have a successful business and still recognize that what’s important is larger than any one business’ success. So our mission is to improve the world, in big and little ways, every day.
Being a B Corp means that TCG has good intentions and backs them up with positive actions for community, customers, and employees. To earn certification and join the growing community of B Corporations, TCG underwent a rigorous assessment to measure our performance in governance, workers, customers, community, and the environment.
