What’s the Process for Creating Federal IT Policy?

Managing more than $80 billion of IT investments across 26 agencies is no small feat. Using sophisticated tools such as ITDashboard.gov, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) works with agencies to collect vast amounts of data and uses that data to inform, create, and improve government-wide IT and cyber policies.

Data collected on ITDashboard.gov and the review of related policies have contributed to the elimination of nearly 60 burdensome policies, the establishment of a revolving fund for new IT investments (MGT Act), FITARA, and government’s adoption of Technology Business Management, among other major initiatives.

The infographic below explains the process OMB takes to create, implement, and evaluate IT policies, and shows some of the data that informs their decision making.
