Grants.gov and the NSF experience

Earlier this month, Science magazine’s ScienceCareers site had a nice article about Grants.gov, from the perspective of people from NSF, the developers of FastLane. If you’ve ever used FastLane, reading this article gives a good sense of how that system began and became the model for electronic grant-making in government. The most notable lesson, I think, is how much people disliked FastLane at its outset, and how much they rhapsodize about it now. Let’s hope the same is said of Grants.gov in a few years!
