GATB Proposes Standard Grants Identification System

The Government Accountability & Transparency Board submitted its first report to the President, and suggested that the government adopt “a single identification system that can provide clarity on Federal awards and be managed from a single, centralized source.” The idea came from the Recovery Act’s Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, which had a similar recommendation for its programs.

The GATB’s two other recommendations were likewise based on the RATB actions: to streamline and integrate how the government collects and display data, and to use technology to track spending. More information on GATB may be found on the White House Blog.

  1. . I tried something with mlseyf and staff, over the past few months. I encourage them to work somewhere other than home or work 1 day a month. I take the oppertunity to work from a cigar bar downtown that has free wireless. I find it lends me to being completely focused on work (as opposed to at home where there are many distractions and I have to work harder to stay focused.) But unlike work, I don’t get as many interruptions. It’s also a good choice for working on private tasks, like evaluations or what not. On the other hand flexibility to work from home for the reasons Jason mentioned are also really appealing. I also have issues with Comcast like Joe, but I have altered my practices to get around that. I’ve switched to developing locally on my laptop. This makes dealing with outages fairly easy. The only challege there is email, but I get around that with my blackberry. That mangement continues to be pretty flexible with this is one of those benefits that makes it easy to stick around.
